The Torture and Ill-Treatment of Palestinian Detainees
Reports | HaMoked Report | 01.05.2007
HaMoked and B'Tselem publish a new report dealing with torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian detainees from the day of arrest until the end of their interrogation and describe how the Israeli law-enforcement apparatus covers up and whitewashes these practices. The report includes testimonies of dozens of interrogees who describe the different interrogation methods and other violent practices outside the interrogation rooms – beatings, withholding of food, prolonged binding, degradation and various threats. The report also presents testimonies from those defined as "ticking bombs" and details the interrogation methods used in such cases – methods which put the interrogees' life in danger. In response to the report, the Justice Ministry claims that it is prevented from addressing the detailed interrogation methods due to confidentiality. The ministry rejects outright all that is described in the report, suggesting, so it would seem, that it is all a figment of the interrogees' and authors' imagination.
