A Wall in the Heart: The Separation Barrier and its Impact on the Right to Health and on Palestinian Hospitals in East Jerusalem
Reports | Report | 14.12.2005
A PHR report determining that the separation wall in Jerusalem is cutting off West Bankers from hospitals in East Jerusalem thereby putting their lives in danger. The report indicates that the wall denies some 500,000 Palestinians from Jerusalem and its vicinity access to essential, progressive and unique treatments they require. The number of outpatients in the hospitals dropped more than 50% since the erection of the wall and there is a wide gap between the number of entry permits issued by Israel and the number of patients in need of medical treatment. Israel is willing to put up with the presence of "Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem," but not with the presence of a Palestinian medical center symbolizing urban life.
