Position Paper by HaMoked: Bill proposals intending to withhold family visits from prisoners defined "security prisoners" are unconstitutional and contradict both Israeli and international law

HaMoked published a position paper against two bill proposals presented before the Knesset. The bills propose withholding family visits from prisoners who belong to organizations holding an Israeli civilian or soldier. In the position paper, HaMoked notes the importance of family visits in prisons in terms of the right to family life and Israel's obligation to respect this right. The paper also presents Israel's obligation under international humanitarian law to allow prisoners to receive frequent family visits. HaMoked explains that reciprocity is irrelevant when it comes to adherence to the Geneva Conventions, particularly as regards prison visits.
