Treaty of Ghent 24/12/1814

The Treaty of Ghent is a peace and friendship treaty signed immediately after the end of the war between the United States and the United Kingdom in 1814. In the framework of this treaty, the United States undertakes to end conflicts with the native tribesman, and agrees to return lands, rights and privileges which belonged to the tribes before the war. Article IX of the Treaty specifically addresses the right of the tribesman to have access to their lands, which remained within the borders of the US after the war. The Treaty also emphasizes that the US shall permit the free passage of tribesman within its borders in order to enable them to benefit, inter alia, from their right to property.
