Health insurance under Section 56(a)(1) of the State Health Insurance Law

Letter from HaMoked to the health ministry’s legal advisor regarding a Palestinian whose mother is an Israeli resident and who has a severe neurological disease and is recognized as 100% handicapped by the National Insurance Institute. HaMoked complains that once he turned 18, the state disowned the child by notifying that he was not entitled to health insurance and handicapped benefits despite having lived half his life in Israel, since he never received Israeli status but only temporary permits. HaMoked demands the child’s dire humanitarian situation be addressed and sections of the health and national insurance laws which allow the minister to grant rights to non-residents be used.
