Israeli human rights organizations in condemnation of the assault on Rabbi Arik Ascherman and the ongoing incitement against human rights organizations
The undersigned organizations are outraged by the violent assault on Rabbi Arik Ascherman, President of Rabbis for Human Rights, during the olive harvest on Friday of last week, and express their great concern over the authorities’ apathy at the incitement and violence against Palestinians and human rights activists.
For many years now, Rabbi Ascherman has been accompanying Palestinian farmers on the olive harvest to help protect them and their rights from violent assaults by settlers, recurring due the authorities’ inaction. Rabbi Ascherman’s longstanding activity is inspirational and praiseworthy. The legal authorities must make every effort to trace the assailant and put him on trial; the Israeli Cabinet Ministers and other political actors must immediately stop the incitement against human rights organizations, which might lead to bloodshed.
