Military issues double demolition order naming apartment of suspected assailant and that of his parents: HaMoked filed an objection to the draconian decision

On June 29, 2016, the military issued a punitive demolition order for a Yatta home where the young man suspected of committing the June 8, 2016 attack in Tel Aviv had lived. The order targets two residential units in a three-story building, one on the top floor, where the man had lived, and the other on the ground floor, where his parents and young siblings live.

On July 4, 2016, HaMoked filed an objection to the military’s decision to demolish the two units, adamantly arguing that the decision was patently disproportionate, that it harmed the family members, who had no part in the attack and that the current demolition plan puts the middle floor of the building, occupied by an entire family, as well as a workshop on the bottom floor which serves as its source of income, in real jeopardy.

HaMoked demanded to be provided with the demolition plan, including information about the demolition method the military was going to use, and repeated its position that house demolitions are “a cruel, irreversible measure with questionable efficacy, as reality over the past few months indicates”.
