On October 11, 2016, the military issued a
two-month closure order for a candy store in A-Ram, on the grounds that it was a “center of sedition”. The military claimed that the store was owned by a person who had committed an attack against Israelis in Jerusalem two days earlier. But, as HaMoked made clear, the store is owned by the father, who was not involved in his son’s actions. HaMoked stressed that the closure was a severe violation of the father’s rights to a livelihood and human dignity.
Following
HaMoked’s petition to the High Court of Justice (HCJ) against the closure order, the state announced, even before the hearing, that “after reconsideration of the matter and beyond any legal obligation”, the order’s validity period would be shortened to end on November 17, 2016, instead of December 11, 2016. Thereupon, the
petition was deleted.
This is another example of the ease with which Israel violates the basic rights of Palestinians under the guise of “security” considerations.
