The military rejected the objections to the planned punitive demolitions of four West Bank homes: HaMoked is about to petition the HCJ

On July 17, 2017, the military announced it rejected HaMoked’s objections to the intended punitive demolition of four homes in Ramallah District: one on behalf of a family living in Silwad, the parents and siblings of a suspect in an attack against Israelis carried out at Ofra Junction on April 6, 2017; the others on behalf of the families of three assailants who carried out an attack in the Old City of Jerusalem on June 16, 2017, all living in Deir Abu Mash’al. In each instance, the military argued that “the demolition of the home is a proportionate and even necessary measure in the given circumstances”.

In response to the objections the military said it intended to demolish one of the homes in Deir Abu Mash'al using “explosives”, and the three other homes using “mechanical engineering equipment”.

The military initially accepted HaMoked’s request to postpone the date of the demolition to July 24, 2017 at 10:00, to enable the submission of petitions to the High Court of Justice (HCJ), but midday Saturday, the 23rd, it retracted its consent, announcing that “given the security situation”, it would begin implementing the orders on the following day, Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 17:00, unless the petitions were filed by then.
