On August 24, 2021, HaMoked published a position paper on the long-standing freeze of the Palestinian population registry, which is effectively controlled by Israel. The paper covers the legal and historical background of this issue, highlighting the predicament of thousands of Palestinian families where one of the spouses is a foreigner without status in the oPt or a West Bank resident with a Gaza address.
On August 30, 2021,
the Israeli Minister of Defense announced that Israel and the Palestinian Authority had agreed to legalise the status of foreigner spouses in the oPt and to renew the possibility to have a registered address changed from Gaza to the West Bank.
