Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, 5752 –1992

A Basic Law aimed at protecting human dignity and liberty "in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state". The law details the rights of humans, stating that emergency ordinances cannot alter it, temporarily suspend it or set limitations to it. Any changes to the law or limitations of it - stemming from a declaration of a state of emergency - must have a proper purpose and be limited to the minimum duration necessary.
